Text Box: Implementation Plan of Camp Douglas Re-Organization
When reading this plan please keep in mind, that the company layout is temporary until we can judge its effectiveness.  We will be judging the effectiveness on these criteria: 1) The response of camp membership to the localization of the monthly camp meeting, 2) Is the participation level rising or falling, 3) Is this plan meeting the needs of the membership?
Company Commanders:  Company commanders will be appointed by the camp commander on a temporary basis, until the members of the company want and elect a permanent commander.  The company commander will serve a 2 year term, or at the pleasure of the camp commander or company membership. The company commander will decide, along with the company members, where and when to hold their monthly meetings.  The company commanders will then meet with camp leadership every 3 months.  As of this letter, Camp Chaplain Dr. Woolfington has stepped forward to volunteer his services.  He will lead Company “E”.  Division Commander Barr has also volunteered, and he will lead Company “B”.  I am willing to appoint any other compatriot to the post of company commander, provided he makes himself known to me.

Text Box: Purpose of Re-Organization:  The high cost of fuel is hampering our member’s participation in the monthly camp meetings, hence their effectiveness as members in good standing of this camp and of the Sons of Confederate Veterans is being hampered.  Our Senior Citizen members are on a fixed income.  The high cost of fuel is a burden on their budgets, and as a result the camp is being denied their experience and their collective wisdom.  Thus the camp is being deprived of their presence.
By localizing the monthly camp meetings, we are attempting to remedy this situation so that all members who want to participate in Camp Douglas Memorial #1507 may do so.  Camp members may attend any company of their choosing, whether inside their home company area or not.
By having company commanders, Camp Douglas will be implementing a Leadership Development program for the new and young members of this camp.  The Company Commanders will be working with older, established leaders of our organization, which will prepare them for taking key leadership positions within the camp and the Illinois Division.  Camp Douglas will be preparing for the future of our camp and division.
